Qama

High-production WordPress platform for Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs documenting the nation's humanitarian response to the Afghanistan crisis.

Project Overview

QAMA (قامة) is a Qatari government initiative under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — a multimedia documentary platform built to tell the story of Qatar's extraordinary humanitarian response to the Afghanistan crisis of August 2021. The scope of what Qatar delivered was remarkable: the coordination of more than 60,000 evacuees through Doha in a matter of weeks, the restoration of Kabul Airport in just nine days (1–9 September 2021), the care of approximately 260 unaccompanied Afghan children, diplomatic mediation between the US government and the Taliban, and the provision of medical supplies, food aid, and family reunification services across the region. The brief was to build a platform worthy of that story — a destination that communicated both the scale and the humanity of the effort to an international diplomatic audience. We built the site on WordPress with a bespoke information architecture structured around key chapters of the response: evacuation, airport restoration, child welfare, diplomatic mediation, and ongoing aid. The design language is institutional and authoritative — clean typographic hierarchy, high-production multimedia embeds, and a bilingual Arabic/English structure that serves both Arab and international audiences. Custom post types for events, milestones, and testimonials allow the Ministry's communications team to update and extend the record independently. The platform operates as both a live communication tool and a permanent institutional archive.
